The Americans need more information. The man to give it is Colonel Mikhail Filitov of the Soviet Union, codename Cardinal, America’s highest-placed agent in the Kremlin. But Filitov’s cover is about to be betrayed to the KGB, and CIA adviser Jack Ryan must rescue Filitov and bring him to safety.

Clear and Present Danger by Tom Clancy

The Sum of All Fears by Tom Clancy

The Sum of All Fears (1991)

As those in power around the globe face up to the challenges of a new world order, in Washington CIA Deputy Director Jack Ryan is putting everything into a plan that could finally bring peace to a Middle East still suffering from the ravages of war. But too many groups have invested too much blood to allow the plan to succeed – the terrorists have one final desperate card to play. With one terrible act the world is plunged into nuclear crisis.

His dreams of peace shattered, Ryan is confronted with a situation he has never dared to imagine: with the world standing on the brink of war, what do you do if the US President is incompetent to deal with the greatest crisis of all?

When one of those new enemies readies a strike not only at America’s territory, but at the heart of her economy, it is Ryan who must somehow prepare an untested President to meet the challenge. For there is a debt of honour to be paid – and the price will be terrifyingly high…

Executive Orders by Tom Clancy

Executive Orders (1996)

After a runaway Jumbo Jet has crashed into the Capitol Building in Washington, the President is left dead, along with most of the Cabinet and Congress. Dazed and confused, the man who only minutes before was confirmed as the new caretaker Vice-President is told that he is now President of the United States. President John Patrick Ryan.

But how do you run a government without a government? Where do you even begin? Ryan knows that the eyes of the world are on him now – and many of them are unfriendly. In Beijing, in Tehran and even in Washington, there are those eager to take advantage. Soon they will make their moves; soon they will present Jack Ryan with a crisis so great even he could not imagine it.

The Bear and the Dragon by Tom Clancy

The Bear and the Dragon (2000)

Newly elected in his own right, Jack Ryan has found that being President has gotten no easier: domestic pitfalls await him at every turn; the Asian economy is going down the tubes; and now, in Moscow, someone may have tried to take out the chairman of the SVR – the former KGB – with a rocket-propelled grenade. Things are unstable enough in Russia without high-level assassination, but even more disturbing may be the identities of the potential assassins. Were they political enemies, the Russian Mafia, disaffected former KGB? Or, Ryan wonders, is something far more dangerous at work here?

Ryan is right to wonder. For even while Russian investigators pursue the case, and some of his most trusted eyes and ears, including antiterrorism specialist John Clark, head to Moscow, forces in China are moving forward with a plan of truly audacious proportions. Tired of what they view as the presumption of the West, eager to fulfill their destiny, they are taking matters into their own hands. If they succeed, the world as we know it will never look the same. If they fail the consequences may be unspeakable.

As another lady fan of the Clancy books, LOVE THEM! I think Rainbow Six I read years ago and it was great! Hard to put down. I just put all the Jack Ryan books in a list order and I’m going to start from the beginning although I’ve read a few already. Then I’ll pick up the other series.

I am also a woman who likes Tom Clancy books. Have read quite a lot of them and all of the original Jack Ryan books written by Tom Clancy alone. Just finished Locked On and will be trying to obtain Threat Vector in the not too distant future. I hope that the books written by other authors are just as good. When I read the books I see Harrison Ford as Jack Ryan Snr. Not sure who I would cast as Jack Junior though.

Yes I am a woman and love these type of books. Just starting the series and plan to read them all. Great author

I am now interested in reading the Tom Clancy series of Jack Ryan because I watched the TV series ( both seasons) and really enjoyed them. So I am going to start reading the Books. Should I start with Patriot games as suggested by Rhiannon. For all you Jack Ryan Fans would that be the best? or should I start with Hunt for Red October?

Hi all Clancy fans. I’ve just read Rainbow Six. Isn’t it in line with what is happening right now in the world with Covid! Fiction at its best. Amazing author.

I have red them all and am waiting for more Jack ryan

    Hello,
I have read all the original Tom Clancy’ books. First in French, then in English and I love them ! So no Sharon, you are not the only woman to be a fan ! I will start soon to read the « new » one written by new guys. Me prefered one is Patriot Games. But all the films that were done based on Tom’s books are bullshit ! Except Red October. A shame…

I am just starting the series. I was glad to see a post from a woman who enjoys these books.

Hello! Jack Ryan doesn’t feature in Red Storm Rising, but it was originally published in 1986 if you are trying to read all Tom Clancy’s books in publication order. Hope that helps 🙂

I started reading Clancy in 1994 and have read all of his books many times over. The originals are the best but the current books are good too. He was a great writer and I highly recommend reading them in chronological order.

I have read all the original Clancy novels. I have not read anything published after 2014. Not to say the authors are not good, just, they are not Tom.

I just started reading Tom Clancy’s books earlier this year. I’m already on the third one in a month. Currently, I am on Cardinal of the Kremlin. My favorite book so far is 100%, Patriot Games. My favorite chapter from Patriot Games was “A Day for Celebration.”

Am I the only woman who enjoys reading Tom Clancy with a passion? Once I get one of his books I cannot put it down & nothing gets done in my household. I am re-reading them all over again. I was so sad when he passed away, but happy to see the books are still coming out. Keep up the good work.

Love all of Clancy’s work, am re-reading the series now for the 3rd time. But, I’m not sure why Patriot Games isn’t listed 1st, since in it, Jack begins his career at CIA, and has 1 child Sally, with Jack Jr on the way. In October, Jack has 2 children, and is already deep enough in CIA to be discussing Russian subs. Even Amazon says October is Jack Ryan book one. I don’t understand.

Hello! Red October was written and released first – Clancy then wrote Patriot Games later as a prequel. If you wanted to read the books chronologically rather than in the order they came out, you could start with Patriot Games. Hope that helps 🙂

Just finished Code of Honour. Fabulous. Not sure where to next

Have read all but 4. Ordering today. What a fabulous run of books and storyline.

Tom Clancy is amazing, I love his work. I never realized how many books were in the series, whether Clancy wrote the or not. Starting on Locked On in a little bit.

I have read them all and loved Jack Ryan the President Jack Ryan Jr. need to become more moral and maybe get married I do not feel he is a whole person. While as his father is. He needs to have a consience and ideals so I can really love him. Dagny

I have read and enjoyed all TOM CLANCY written books. My favourite book is Red Storm Rising and my favourite chapter is “3 shakes” from clear and
present danger. (I remember the chapter title being different : something like “19 nanoseconds”).
