Sean is on the run. Stone Bruises is an apt name for Simon Beckett’s latest thriller, the narrative develops with all the vivacity of a good shiner, slowly revealing the tortured tale of Sean and why he’s seemingly without friends or destination.

A limited cast extends the feeling of claustrophobia that the small French farm exudes and what is the secret that everyone seems to know except newcomer Sean? The writing is brilliant and you’ll be transported to the French countryside where all is not what it seems. Then there’s the hogs…
