The CWA Gold Dagger Winner 2014
The Crime Writer’s Association has announced the winner of the Gold Dagger Award 2014!
The Gold Dagger Award, originally created in 1955, is awarded to the best crime novel of the year. Previous winners include Blacklands by Belinda Bauer and Sidetracked by Henning Mankell.
This year, the accolade has been awarded to This Dark Road To Mercy by Wiley Cash!
This Dark Road to Mercy is a heart-wrenching thriller that explores the nature of love and the evil that threatens it. A novel of blood, atonement, love and vengeance, it involves two young sisters, a wayward father and an enemy determined to see him pay for his sins.
Wiley Cash is a native of western North Carolina, a region that features prominently in his fiction and is the setting of This Dark Road to Mercy. He lives in West Virginia where he teaches fiction writing and American literature. His first novel, A Land More Kind than Home, won the CWA John Creasey Award for Best First Novel in 2012.
Wiley told us, ‘I cannot express what a thrill it was to be nominated for the Gold Dagger, so imagine my difficulty in expressing my gratitude in learning that my novel won the award. It’s such an honour to be welcomed into such an esteemed group of writers. Thank you from across the Atlantic and from the bottom of my heart.’
