Leigh Russell is the author of the internationally bestselling DI Geraldine Steel series and the DI Ian Peterson spin-off series which have sold over half a million copies worldwide. Her seventh Geraldine Steel novel, Killer Plan, explores how a chance meeting with an old school friend in the park can change a woman’s life forever. Soon, Caroline’s husband is dead and her child missing, but with the killer monitoring her every move, is there any way Caroline can help Geraldine uncover the truth?
We all know that when crime authors aren’t writing, they’re probably reading! We asked Leigh to tell us about what she’s currently reading and what she loves about it.
Over to Leigh:
“I was a fan of crime in fiction before I became aware of the crime fiction genre. From the White Witch in Narnia, and pirates stealing pieces of eight in Treasure Island, through the great tragedies of Shakespeare, and of course Sherlock Holmes – crime played a part in many of my favourite books, long before I came across any fictitious police detectives. Of course the genre has established a tradition of its own, and there are many brilliant contemporary crime writers. As readers we are, thankfully, spoiled for choice.
Even so, like millions of other readers, I always look forward to a new Roy Grace novel by Peter James, and like every book in the Roy Grace series, Want You Dead gripped me from the start. The premise for the book is powerful in its simplicity, with an aggrieved ex-boyfriend seeking revenge on the girl who rejected him. The narrative forges ahead with some startling twists along the way. In James’ skilful hands, the main drama unfolds with an unnerving sense of inevitability reminiscent of iconic tragedies, until the suspense becomes almost unbearable. It takes a writer of the calibre of Peter James to rack up so much tension as the stalker pursues his prey. I particularly enjoy psychological thrillers – I spend most of my time writing them – and Peter James is a master of the genre.
Want You Dead works as a standalone. At the same time, as a fan of Roy Grace, I enjoyed reading more about his story – always a bonus for fans of this series. If you like well written crime novels with plenty of suspense, you cannot go wrong with Peter James. If you have not already enjoyed Want You Dead, you have a treat in store.”
