Noirwich Event Spotlight: Creating Light and Dark

We simply cannot think of a better way to spend a Friday evening than hearing from some brilliant crime writers – so why not join us at 6pm on 18th September for the Creating Light and Dark panel at Noirwich?

Three of our favourite crime writers – James Runcie, Linwood Barclay and Sharon Bolton – will come together to discuss contrasting but interconnected approaches to crime writing and explore how they each create light and dark in their work. We can’t wait to hear from them – this is one event you won’t want to miss.

Fans of the fantastic ITV crime drama Grantchester, based on James Runcie’s The Grantchester Mysteries, will be well acquainted with his talent for contrasting light and dark, creating relatable, complex characters and stories that can be hilarious one minute and sinister and suspenseful the next.

Bolton often strays towards the dark side in her writing, using haunting landscapes and small town tensions to terrify her readers. We can’t wait to hear how Bolton manages to control the darkness in her stories and weave tales that are atmospheric, suspenseful and unforgettable.

Last, but by no means least, is the infamous and prolific Linwood Barclay – a master of subterranean crime who certainly doesn’t shy away from the more chilling side of the genre. Barclay’s ability to take a genteel environment and imbue it with shade is fascinating, and we are impatiently awaiting the chance to hear him speak!

As you can tell from our (frankly shameless) gushing, we are looking forward to this event with almost inappropriate levels of excitement. We hope to see you all there – we’ll be the ones at the front, frantically taking notes and grinning manically…
