Noirwich Event Spotlight: First Blood

Here at Dead Good, we absolutely love the thrill of finding a new crime writer to add to our (ever expanding) list of favourite authors.

Because of this, you will most definitely see us out in force at the First Blood panel at Noirwich on 19th September, an event celebrating some of the brilliant debut authors that have hit the crime scene this year.

The panel will feature the incredibly talented Ruth Ware, T R Richmond and Kate Hamer. Their debut novels are completely different but all warrant celebration in their own right. The beauty of events like this is the variety of writers and stories you can discover!

If you haven’t yet had the chance to sink your teeth into these cracking reads, we can guarantee you’re going to want to after the event – and if you’re lucky enough to have read them already, then you’ll understand why we’re jumping at the chance to hear from the authors themselves.

Ruth Ware’s In A Dark Dark Wood is a deliciously creepy tale about a hen do that goes terribly wrong. While most of us have been to an awful hen at some point – feather boas and novelty sashes anyone? – few of us can claim to have experienced one as catastrophic as the one Ruth has cooked up: one that ends in murder. What She Left is a haunting and suspenseful novel by T R Richmond, exploring the digital imprint each of us leaves on the world around us with the growth of social media, and interweaving it with a brilliant crime story. An important and relevant topic in today’s world, T R Richmond’s novel may make you think twice about what you say before hitting ‘send’ in the future…

Already shortlisted for the CWA John Creasey (New Blood) Dagger Award, Kate Hamer’s The Girl in the Red Coat is an absolutely brilliant read. This is an incredibly creepy story, which grabs you and refuses to let go even after you’ve finished the last page. It caused us more than one sleepless night worrying about the fate of Carmel, the missing girl and the book’s protagonist.

We asked Ruth Ware why she’s looking forward to the event:

“I’m incredibly excited to be coming to Noirwich – and especially to be part of such a stellar line up of established and emerging crime voices. I can’t wait to see some of the giants of the crime world in person, and I’m really looking forward to speaking on the First Blood panel – though I’m hoping no actual blood will be involved…”
