First Look: The Bridge series 4

Saga and Henrik will return for the concluding instalment of the smash hit Scandinavian series The Bridge this month, this time airing on BBC Two.

Sofia Helin and Thure Lindhart reprise their roles as the iconic Saga and her innately talented Danish partner, Henrik, in a heart-stopping concluding case that tests their very special relationship to its limits both professionally and personally.

Almost two years after we last saw Saga and Henrik a woman is found brutally murdered on Pepparholm island, at the base of the bridge. It transpires that she is Margrethe Thormod, General Director of the Migration Agency in Copenhagen and the killers motive may lie in a recent and highly publicised deportation scandal that affected Margrethe personally.

With Saga incarcerated in the women’s prison in Ystad, convicted of murdering her mother, Henrik is forced to investigate the macabre murder with his new abrasive Danish colleague, Jonas Mandrup (Mikael Birkkjǣr) but he misses Saga terribly. Knowing that she is having a hard time in prison he visits as often as she will let him and wants her to help him with the new case, but Saga points to the fact that she isn’t a police officer anymore.

Writers Hans Rosenfeldt and Camilla Ahlgren added, ‘We’ve been on an amazing journey with Saga Norén and Henrik Sabroe and felt that there was one last thrilling story to tell. Set two years on from last series, Saga is coming to terms with the dire consequences of being accused of her mother’s murder when a macabre crime seemingly linked to migration takes place. Meanwhile, Henrik continues his desperate search for his children.’

‘It is obviously very sad to say goodbye to Saga after four incredible seasons, but our talented writers, Hans and Camilla have an extraordinary end in store for viewers. Sofia has played the role of Saga with a rawness and truth rarely seen on screen and it’s been a pleasure to work with her, and Thure on a series of which we are immensely proud,’ added Anders Landstrom, producer of The Bridge

Don’t miss The Bridge series 4 episode 1 on Friday 11 May at 9pm on BBC Two.
