First Look: Reacher series 2

Find out the latest on the second series of Amazon Prime's Reacher, based on the bestselling books by Lee Child.

Jack Reacher is back for a second thrilling outing in Amazon Prime’s Reacher.

After the success of the first season based on Killing Floor – Lee Child’s award-winning debut and the first book in the Jack Reacher seriesReacher series 2 will be adapted from Bad Luck and Trouble.

Here’s everything we know about Reacher season 2.

Who plays Jack Reacher?

Titans and Smallville star Alan Ritchson returns as Jack Reacher for the second run of the show.

The 38-year-old is physically how many readers have imagined Lee Child’s no-nonsense, big 6’5″ hulk of a creation in their mind’s eye while reading any of the 26 Reacher novels. And not only is the North Dakota-born actor tall, he’s no stranger to a gym. The imposing Ritchson looks like he’s been chiselled out of marble.

What can we expect from the plot?

As we’ve mentioned, this second run of the Reacher TV series is to be based on the eleventh Reacher book Lee Child wrote, Bad Luck and Trouble, so the basic plot is no secret at all.

When a member of his old Army unit finds a way to contact the untraceable Jack Reacher, he knows it must be serious. In the past, the elite team always watched each other’s backs – but now one of them has shown up dead in the California desert and six more are missing. Reacher’s old buddies are in big trouble, and he can’t let that go.

Is there a Reacher trailer?

As of yet, there’s no trailer for Reacher: Bad Luck and Trouble – but if you missed the first season, you can watch the trailer below.

What are people saying about Reacher?

‘I can see why it’d be exciting as a film, but the slow burn is what I love so much about the books. The way that he goes down the checklist and picks apart these cases, you need time.’, Ritchson said, when asked if he thought the books lent themselves better to a television series rather than films. ‘It’s okay to enjoy that. I think spending a season on each book is gonna be really enjoyable for audiences.’

Showrunner Nick Santora – who has worked on shows like The Sopranos, Prison Break, FBI and Lie to Me – added: ‘Lee Child has created an incredible character and world. It will be the goal of every writer, producer, actor, executive and crew member to capture the essence of Mr Child’s books. Luckily Lee has been there, and will continue to be there, to help guide us along the way in this series. He is the pulse of Reacher.’

In a recent interview with Collider, Amazon Studios’ Head of Television Vernon Sanders teased that we can expect exciting things from Bad Luck and Trouble. ‘Season 2 is awesome’, he said. ‘And as great as season one was, I think season two delivers beyond that’. We can’t wait!

The first film was good. Cruise did his usual good job, but Mr Child is of course right, that Tom just wasn’t right for the part. I think Ritchson is a good choice. Fits the picture I have. And I think TV is a better than film, as long as there is cinematic quality, and production value, combined with a longer timeline to tell the story and develop characters. One thing that wasn’t good about the films, was that some of the detail of the character, was left out, like Jack’s playlist in his head and his love of the blues, which is important to Killing Floor. It’s the title of a Howling Wolf song after all, and the reason Jack ends up in Margrave is that he’s interested in Blind Blake. I’m sure Mr. Child could help them with the soundtrack and avoid that commercial cliche sound of a lot of films and tv action series. Apart from being true to the novel, the kind of music Jack likes will create the right atmosphere. Miles Davis, John Lee Hooker and Taj Mahal did a soundtrack for a film called The Hot Spot years ago, that would be a good starting point.

I’m a bit concerned that they haven’t cast the part of FBI agent Picard, who in the book, is a significant character. Removing him, implies major changes to the plot, not least to the finale. I can’t see why they would try to simplify the plot when they have a television series timescale to tell the story. I really hope their standard and inspiration and look and feel is something like True Detective or Bosch or Justified, rather than a standard TV action series series. Don’t get me wrong, I like things like Prison Break or Breakout Kings, but they don’t have the production values and quality of a series like True Detective. There needs to be cinematic quality. The novels deserve it.

Really looking forward to this and it’s good to know Reacher will be played by an actor similar in build to Lee Child’s creation – Tom Cruise may be a fine actor, but Jack Reacher he ain’t.
Can’t wait for you to let us know when it’s due on TV.

Can’t wsit for this to start! I am a big fan of this series, and although Tom Cruise is no Jack Reacher, he is a good actor. Just physically does not do justice to the part.

I am a huge Jack Reacher fan and have read all the books to date.
I am thrilled and excited about the new series and feel that who ever plays Jack Reacher should fit the bill….big and tall. Sadly, Tom Cruise was not the right fit.
