Terms and Conditions: Thomas Harris treasure hunt

COMPETITION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1. By entering this competition, you agree to accept and be bound by these terms and conditions. All entry instructions form part of the terms & conditions of this competition.
2. This competition is open to anyone aged 18 or over who is a resident of the UK or the Republic of Ireland, except for employees of The Random House Group Limited (promoter), its subsidiary companies, their families and any other company connected with the competition.
3. Entries (final answers to the final clue) must be received between 18th May and 20th May 2019 (closing date). Entries that are illegible, incomplete, corrupted or which are not received by the closing date for any reason, will not be considered.
4. Only one entry per person. No entrant may win more than one prize.
5. To take part follow Penguin social media channels on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook from Tuesday 14th May 2019 and follow the clues in the treasure hunt which will take you on-line (either on social media or onto different websites) and offline – all of which will lead to the location of the prize. There will be several clues to be deciphered between 14th May and the closing date. Each clue will be released on social media on dates and times to be determined at the Promoter’s discretion with the final clue being revealed at a time to be decided between the 18th and 20th May 2019. Following the clues may require the entrants to travel to/within the UK. All costs incurred for such travel (including accommodation costs) will be the entrant’s responsibility.
6. Those entrants that decipher the final clue will be asked to send the correct answer along with their full name via text message to a phone number of the Promoter as provided to them. The winning entry will be the first correct answer together with the entrant’s full name received by the promoter via text message to the phone number provided. The Promoter will then call the winner and will be given the location of the prize, a password and a time to collect the prize. Unless otherwise specified by the Promoter in communication following the text message, the winner will be asked to make their way to the location at the stated time with accompanying ID to verify their identity.
7. The prize is one first impression printing of the book, Cari Mora by Thomas Harris, signed by the author along with a rare signature illustration by the author containing over £1000 of pure 24ct gold bullion which will be inserted into the cover of the book and will be integral to it (prize). The prize is non-transferable and no cash alternative will be offered.
8. Events may occur which render the awarding of the prize impossible due to reasons beyond the control of the promoter and the promoter may, at its absolute discretion, vary, amend or suspend award of the prize with or without notice.
9. The winner will be notified within 24 hours of the promoter’s receipt of the text message set out in Clause 6 above. The winner must claim their prize within an hour of the time notified to collect the prize stating the password and other details to collect the prize. Unless otherwise specified by the Promoter in communication following the text message, the winner must be able to make their own way to the location of the prize at their own cost. If the prize is unclaimed by the winner within the specified time, it will lapse and the promoter reserves the right to offer the unclaimed prize to a substitute winner selected in accordance with these rules.
10. Other than those specified above, the promoter shall not be liable for any costs or expenses arising out of or in any way connected with this prize and does not accept any responsibility for any damage, loss or disappointment suffered by the winner as result of accepting this prize.
11. By entering this competition, all entrants consent to the use of their personal data by the Promoter for the purposes of running the competition as detailed in these terms and conditions. Details on how we process the personal data of entrants can be found in our Privacy Policy (http://penguin.co.uk/company/about-us/notices/privacy-policy/full-privacy-policy.html)

We will make the winner’s name and county available on request to the following email address [email protected] (please state the name of the competition in the subject heading 10 weeks after the closing date). If you do not want your name and county to be made available in the event that you win, please let us know by emailing [email protected]. Please note we are required to make the winner’s details available to the ASA if requested.
13. The promoter’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into in relation to the competition.
14. The Promoter may require the winner to take part in some post-competition publicity. The winner’s consent will be sought and the winner will be asked to sign a release form prior to such photographs or any other footage being taken.
15. Promoter may disqualify any entrant whose entry does not comply with these terms and conditions (in promoter’s sole opinion) or who, in promoter’s sole determination, has acted in a manner that is fraudulent, dishonest or unjust to other entrants including, without limitation, tampering with the operation of the competition, manipulating or rigging votes, hacking, deceiving, using multiple accounts / phone numbers to submit multiple entries, cheating or by harassing or threatening other entrants, the panel or a representative of promoter.
