First Look: Reacher season 4

It’s been a year since Reacher season 3 graced our screens, and we’re getting withdrawal symptoms. The good news is that filming for the fourth season ended in December 2025, so the show should be returning later this year – and, from what we’ve seen so far, it could be its most explosive run yet.

Each season of Reacher is adapted from a separate Lee Child novel, and season 4 is based on the 13th book in Child’s Jack Reacher series, Gone Tomorrow. The brilliant Alan Ritchson will return as the titular Jack Reacher, a drifter with a military brain and a Titan’s frame, and we’re expecting fast-paced action sequences, dangerous conspiracies, and higher stakes than ever before in this story about international terrorism.

A lot of the details of the upcoming season are still under wraps, but here’s everything we know about the show so far, including its action-packed plot, star-studded cast, and (hopeful) release date.

What’s the plot of season 4?

The new season is based on Lee Child’s novel, Gone Tomorrow. The book opens with Reacher riding the subway in New York, where he spots a woman he suspects is a terrorist. As he grows convinced that she poses a threat, Reacher must find a way to stop her from reaching her destination and detonating a bomb – while remaining undetected.

But the danger doesn’t stop there, because Reacher’s intervention lands him in trouble with the NYPD, the FBI and the Department of Defence – as well as a group of terrorists, led by the cruel cell leader Lila Hoth.

Who’s in the cast this season?

The giant figure of Alan Ritchson is confirmed to be returning as Jack Reacher. His take on the character has become the show’s backbone as he brilliantly emulates the hero of Child’s books: physically imposing, calm under pressure, and able to read a room in seconds.

Beyond Ritchson, casting details are currently a little scant. We know Lila Hoth, Reacher’s sadistic nemesis, will be played by award-winning Indonesian singer and songwriter, Agnez Mo, in her first significant acting credit.

Elsewhere in the cast, there has already been one major change behind the scenes: Jay Baruchel was originally billed to play police officer Jacob Merrick but, due to a personal matter, has since been replaced by Christopher Rodriguez-Marquette.

We’d normally expect to see Maria Sten playing Reacher’s cool and capable ally Frances Neagley. However, with Neagley getting her own spin-off series later this year, it seems unlikely that Reacher’s trusty former colleague will return this season.

Who’s behind the camera?

Nick Santora continues as showrunner, maintaining the tone that has made Reacher one of Prime Video’s most reliable – not to mention most fun – shows in recent years. The formula is deceptively simple: it’s all about clean plotting, simple dialogue and well-staged, action-set pieces. The focus is on action that feels physical rather than glossy. Lee Child also returns as an executive producer, helping ensure the adaptation stays faithful to the spirit of the novels.

What can we expect from the show?

Lead star Ritchson has hinted that this season will be the most action-packed yet. “It’s a gauntlet. I mean, it’s just a labyrinth of fights. We shot 11 fights in the first four weeks, and we’ve never shot anything close to that pace,” he said.

“Everywhere Reacher turns, he’s got another group on his heels. It’s fun, wild, and nonstop, and we haven’t done anything like it yet. Usually, by the end of the day, it’s a sweet mixture of both fake and real blood.”

However, he has made it clear that more punches doesn’t mean less thought. “I worry about fight fatigue for audiences,” Ritchson said. “I don’t ever want somebody to disengage because they’re just seeing all the fights in the world thrown on screen.” In other words, the action needs purpose. Reacher might be blunt, but the storytelling won’t be.

When can we watch it?

Prime Video hasn’t announced a release date for season 4 quite yet. The show has wrapped filming, and is currently in production, but a premiere window remains under wraps.

If previous seasons are any guide, however, a release date looks likely to land soon, and we’re hopeful that the show will drop by autumn 2026. One thing feels certain: if Ritchson’s comments are anything to go by, this season won’t be a quiet stroll in Central Park.

Can’t wait until the new season of Reacher is released later this year? We recommend reading the source material, Gone Tomorrow – the 13th book in Child’s Jack Reacher series.
