Tony Parsons turns to crime!

We’re thrilled by the announcement today that Tony Parsons, author of Man and Boy, is turning to a life of crime! Century and Arrow Publisher, Selina Walker, has acquired three crime novels by the author – the first of which will be published next year by Century.

The Murder Bag is the first novel in a new crime series featuring Detective Max Wolfe. Wolfe is a devoted single parent, defender of the weak, and every murderer’s worst nightmare. Called in to investigate a particularly nasty killing, he follows a bloody trail from the backstreets and bright lights of London’s West End to the corridors of power in Westminster, discovering in the process a horrific secret that has been buried for two decades – and is now ready to explode.

Selina Walker said: “I’ve been a huge fan of Tony’s writing since reading Man and Boy so it was a particular thrill when we were sent his first crime novel. And what a book it is, with a series of graphic murders, a really atmospheric setting, lots of wonderful details about London’s secret history and a hugely appealing hero in Max Wolfe. It is no exaggeration to say that to meet Max is to fall in love with both him and Scout, his five-year-old daughter. This is absolutely my sort of book, and I could not be more excited to be publishing Tony and to be introducing him into the world of crime.”

Tony Parsons said: “This feels like the start of a great adventure. The enthusiasm of Selina Walker and the entire team at Random House for The Murder Bag is exactly what every writer dreams of finding. I am excited, happy and proud. The Murder Bag is a high-octane thriller with a big heart that I hope will appeal to all my readers – both old and new. I look forward to turning to crime with Random House.”

Tony is the author of Man and Boy, winner of the Book of the Year Prize. His subsequent novels – One For My Baby, Man and Wife, The Family Way, Stories We Could Tell and My Favourite Wife – were all bestsellers.

The Murder Bag will be published next May in hardback. We’ll keep you posted with any up-to-the-minute news on this exciting new book.

Looking forward to it. Been reading Tonys stuff ever since his young days (and mie) on the NME. In particular, I believe he wrote an incredibly stunning review of Springsteen, which I can still vaguely remember.
