Jonathan Creek to return for a one-off special

Jonathan Creek is set to return to our screens for a one-off, 90-minute special on 28th December.

Alan Davies will don the iconic duffle-coat once again in what he promises is the “spookiest episode ever”. Sarah Alexander will also return as Jonathan’s wife Polly.

According to legend, a 19th century sorcerer named Jacob Surtees would summon the powers of Hell to terrorise and subjugate his victims at his home, Daemons’ Roost. A hundred and fifty years after his death the house is occupied by another, equally macabre, figure: veteran horror film director Nathan Clore. With his health now failing he has summoned home his stepdaughter Alison, to share with her the chilling truth of what happened to her family there. However, just days before her arrival Nathan Clore has suffered a debilitating stroke, rendering him terribly paralysed and unable to communicate the very truth that she has come to learn.

After assisting Alison’s husband in the past, Jonathan Creek is called upon to help again – but as the story unfolds, with ever more sinister twists and turns, the gruesome rituals that were once enacted in the dungeon of Daemons’ Roost are frighteningly revived with horrifying consequences.

Further cast includes Warwick Davis (Star Wars, Life’s Too Short), Emun Elliot (The Paradise, Game Of Thrones), Ken Bones (Dr Who, Atlantis), Rosalind March (Calendar Girls, The Evermoor Chronicles), Jason Barnett (Agatha Raisin, Bad Education), Jo Martin (Still Open All Hours, Doctors).

Shane Allen, Controller of Comedy Commissioning, said: “Another sublime and intricately conceived treat from David Renwick and a welcome return for Alan Davies in this signature role. You can see the influence of David’s unique blend of dark comedy and crime drama across television since the debut of this show nearly 20 years ago, as it remains a pioneering class act and evergreen favourite with the audience.”

We’re sure it’ll be perfect viewing for the festive season!

This always makes me happy 🙂 I have been a massive Jonathan Creek fan ever since I was a child (the twisted logic and mind bending puzzles so appealed!) and I was devastated when they axed it. Thank goodness for Drama 🙂 but I so look forward to these one off specials – long may they continue!
