At Dead Good we love giving away fantastic fiction which is why we’re thrilled to be able to offer you the chance to win one of five signed copies of Howard Marks addictive new novel The Score.

Howard Marks is the author of the international bestseller Mr Nice, which describes his years as one of the world’s most wanted drug barons. It has sold over a million copies worldwide and was released as a film, starring Rhys Ifans in 2010. What is even more impressive is that Howard Marks has turned his considerable talents to writing crime fiction. The first book in his series, Sympathy for the Devil introduced the reader to DS Catrin Price, potentially the most hardcore female detective ever created! We’re happy to see her back in The Score.

As we say in England, it never rains but it pours! This is how we’re feeling at the minute about the spectacular crime dramas being showcased at the moment. Not only has Broadchurch set the bar remarkably high for British drama but Arne Dahl has us completely hooked. So we’re absolutely thrilled to learn of the return of the rugged and sharp and let’s be honest, very easy on the eye, Jackson Brodie.

Books are some of our most prized possessions, whether they are priceless first editions or a well worn gift from a loved one, it would hurt to lose them. This is a universal truth. Even more so, we’ve found out, for authors.

We asked Will Jordan, author of the Ryan Drake novels which books he’d grab upon discovering a fire and evacuating all his loved ones safely. Which books did he choose?

This Wednesday we’re once again musing on the creative processes behind our favourite books. Specifically how do you research a crime novel? Taking for granted that not all authors are secretly homicidal maniacs or have second jobs as hard-nosed police detectives, the question must be asked of them; how do they create characters in professions that they have no life experience of?

Where do they begin? We asked internationally best-selling author Liza Marklund how she went about creating her first ever police procedural.

Once dubbed ‘The Queen of Rural Gothic’ S. J. Bolton is our ninth author to face the barrage of questions in our dock. She is the author of six critically acclaimed novels. She has been shortlisted for the CWA Gold Dagger for Crime Novel of the Year, the Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year and the CWA Dagger in the Library. There’s not much this lady doesn’t know about writing a pulse-pounding, heart-in-your-throat, down-right too scared to stop reading thriller!

We’re at the mid-point, half way through the ten episode series of Arne Dahl, a Swedish crime thriller series about an elite team of detectives. So it’s time to take stock!

Here’s a rundown of who’s who in Arne Dahl’s A Unit – a special police cell set up to track down a serial killer picking off Sweden’s financial elite. Like the A Team but with more Saabs, and marginally fewer explosions.
