First Look: Passenger

It’s only March and we’ve already been spoiled for choice when it comes to new crime shows on the telly. But if you’re still reeling from the end of Fool Me Once and True Detective, we have some good news: a new ITV drama is set to hit our screens this weekend.

Passenger – not to be confused with the 2008 Anne Hathaway film – is a darkly comic police drama, starring Wunmi Mosaku in the lead role. It’s got a great premise and stellar cast, so, without further ado, here’s everything we know about the show so far…

What is Passenger all about?

In this six-part series, former Met Police Detective Riya Ajunwa investigates a series of baffling and disturbing crimes. It starts with the disappearance of local girl Katie Wells – who reappears the next day, seemingly safe and sound. The locals in the small town of Chadder Vale don’t ask many questions and everything goes back to business as usual, but for Ajunwa, a relative newbie to the town, something doesn’t add up.

As a series of bizarre crimes unfold, the residents of the small town blame outsiders, including the fracking site and its manager Jim Bracknell. Even as things take a more sinister turn, Ajunwa’s concerns fall on deaf ears. What is everyone in town hiding, and why are they so afraid?

This is a creepy, suspenseful show that’s perfect for fans of Shetland, True Detective and the novels of Henning Mankell.

Passenger cast: who’s in the show?

Actress Wunmi Mosaku plays the lead role of Riya Ajunwa. You might recognise her from Luther, Black Mirror, Loki, or Damilola, Our Loved Boy – for which she won a BAFTA.

While Mosaku is probably the biggest name on the show, she is joined by a talented cast: Jo Hartley (After Life) as Chief Constable Linda Markel; David Threlfall (Shameless) as Jim Bracknell; Rowan Robinson (A Haunting in Venice) as Katie Wells; Sean Gilder (The Gold) as Tony Corrigan; Debbie Rush (Coronation Street; Brassic) as forensic analyst Terry Jackson; Daniel Ryan (The Bay) as Derek Jackson; Natalie Gavin (Gentleman Jack) as Joanne Wells; Shervin Alenabi (Baghdad in My Shadow) as Mehmet Shah; Ella Bruccoleri (Call The Midwife) as Ali Day, and many more.

Where can I watch Passenger?

The first episode of the series will air on Sunday 24 March on ITV1 at 9pm. You won’t have to wait long for episode two, as that will air on Monday 25 March at the same time. The rest of the episodes will be released in subsequent weeks.

Or, if you don’t have the willpower to wait, you can binge the entire series on ITVX from Sunday 24 March or stream it on BritBox.

Yes I watched it. Thought it was going to be good, but what a load of rubbish! Nothing was explained in the end. Anyone could write this as long as you can leave it all in the air and not explain anything!!
